Picking a domain name: the 5 rules pros follow
Brandable > descriptive. .com > everything else. Short > long.
- Brandable: invented words win (“Stripe”, “Notion”, “Atlas”).
- Pronounceable: if you can’t say it on a phone, it’s wrong.
- Short: ≤7 letters ideal, ≤12 absolute max.
- .com: every other TLD has a 30–50% trust gap.
- Avoid hyphens, numbers, weird spellings.
Where to search
Namecheap, Porkbun, Squarespace. Avoid GoDaddy auctions.
When to splurge
A 4-letter .com can be ₹5–20L. Worth it if you’re building a brand to last 10+ years.
